Terry Watkins
On January 19, 1969, Stout University hosted St. Paul Groveland, a senior men’s team on Lake Menomin. It was the first hockey game for Stout. Groveland won 8-4. Terry Watkins was a defenseman on the Groveland team. A year later, he began a four-year career playing for Stout. He ranks fourth on the all time scoring list.
In 1988, Watkins began an eight-year stint as the Stout club hockey coach and then in 1996 returned the school team to varsity status. In 2008 and 2009, Watkins led his team to the NCAA national tournament. He was named WIAC coach of the year twice.
In addition, Watkins coached youth and high school hockey in Menomonie. He was an assistant coach on the 1991 Menomonie High School state champions. As a player, he was also a member of the 1973 and 1975 senior men’s state champions.
