Bill Howard

 

Bill Howard taught at Madison Memorial High School and started the hockey program in the 1966–67 school year. He retired from coaching at Memorial at the end of the 1976–77 season with a record of 136-72-1. Under Howard’s leadership, Memorial won two state championships and was runner-up twice. Memorial played in the state championship in each of the last four years of his stewardship. Memorial was undefeated (43-0-1) during the final two seasons of his high school coaching career.

Coach Howard had a distinguished career as the goalie coach of the University of Wisconsin from 1972 until 2008. Under his tutelage, Wisconsin became known as “Goalie U.” He worked under head coaches Bob Johnson, Jeff Sauer and Mike Eaves. Collegiately, he played at Colorado College and was the starting goaltender in his senior year.
