Wally Akervik

 

Wallace Akervik was a native of Duluth, Minnesota. He played four sports for Duluth Central High School and played college hockey for University of Minnesota-Duluth. Akervik started the University of Wisconsin-Superior hockey program in 1965 and won the NAIA Championship in 1976. In 1983 he was inducted into the UW-Superior Hall of Fame.

In 1977 Wally was hired as arena manager for the city of Eau Claire. In 1978 he started the varsity hockey program at UW-Eau Claire winning a NAIA Championship in 1984. He was NAIA Coach of the Year in 1973 and 1984. Wally was honored by the city of Eau Claire by naming one of the Hobbs Ice Center rinks the Akervik Rink.

Wallace Akervik was a supporter of hockey, figure skating, recreational skating, and curling.
